We’ve all suffered slow death while watching presentations. They can put an audience to sleep faster than a double dose of Ambien.

But are your own presentations any better?

Even if you’ve added a voice track, or some animation, or converted your slides to PDF documents, the truth is that slides are usually pretty static and boring.

Is that how you want your web and social content to come across?

If not, here’s an easy and affordable improvement:

Transform PowerPoint to video. (Also works for Keynote or Google Slides.)

Entente recently did just that for a technology business. Here’s an inside look at that process.

Transform Powerpoint to video – BEFORE

The starting point for this transformation was a Powerpoint presentation. The presentation had been recorded with narration to create a home-made video of sorts.

All well and good, but here’s what most of the Powerpoint slides looked like:

This is a fairly typical slide image: some simple graphics, and perhaps a bit of animation. And yet, it’s not very exciting, or engaging, or pleasing to the eye.

Transform Powerpoint to video – AFTER

Here’s what this same presentation looks like, with the same narration script, after Entente transformed it into an updated video:

To create this video, we started by using the speaker notes from the presentation to create a script. (If you don’t have speaker notes, you could simply provide an outline of the main messages you want to convey on each slide.)

Then we used a combination of video clips and select slides from the presentation to tell the story. The key words and concepts in the script determined the type of visual content to include. Many of the original slides were bullet points, which don’t have much impact. So we replaced most of those with illustrative video footage instead.

Next we added a voice track and music. The original presentation had been recorded with narration, but the quality was poor, so we substituted our Entente narration and used vocal emphasis to underscore the video’s main points.

Finally, we created a custom title scene and call-to-action scene to bookend and brand the entire video. We transformed more than one PowerPoint presentation to video for this client, so we used a consistent look on this and all other videos to reinforce their branding.

The entire conversion took about one business day of elapsed time, and cost about $300.

Ways to use video presentations

Once you’ve transformed your Powerpoint (or Keynote or Slides) presentation into a rich video format, you can use this content in your website, social posts and email campaigns.

You’ll get more clicks, more views and more engagement with video. And, you’re likely to keep your audience awake much longer – and that’s a very good thing!
